What Lady Gaga’s Many Obstacles Taught Her About Life

Just like you, many celebrities go through a lot of hardship before reaching the stars. That would include Lady Gaga, from whom we all have so much to learn.

It might be surprising to many, but Lady Gaga initially lacked confidence in her singing. She also thought that she was unattractive, which led her to believe that she couldn’t make it as a performer or recording artist.

Of course, things turned out quite differently for her.

Those closest to her didn’t do a lot to help, either.

By Gaga’s own account, most people were telling her that she sounded great, though they didn’t care for how she looked.

So, what did Gaga do in response? Did she hide in a studio and lend her vocals to other singers?

She plucked up the courage to prove the naysayers wrong. Gaga began to perform in her iconic costumes, of which you might remember the meat dress.

Her storied career included her jaw-dropping stunt at the Super Bowl halftime show that had her hanging suspended from the top of the arena.

For her fans, it’s never about how Gaga looked. Fashion experts may disagree with her style, but it’s precisely her courage to be different that appeals to many of her fans.

Gaga has ridden what she believed in to rest on her rightful perch as an international superstar.

The Teachings

Check out some of the most famous Lady Gaga quotes and the inspiration that you can draw from them.

#1 – “… you don’t always feel like a winner, but that doesn’t mean you’re not a winner.

Winning isn’t about how you feel. It’s about having the capacity and courage to take on the world and show everybody what you can do.

Lady Gaga knew this all too well from all the negative comments about her looks.

Not just looks, people may challenge your abilities, not to mention that you may doubt yourself whenever you encounter failure.

But there’s no such thing as failure. Confirmed winners are those who know how to hop back on their feet when they’re down and resume fighting with increased ferocity.

#2 – “You have to be unique, and different, and shine in your own way.

On a surface level, you may associate this with Gaga’s elaborate costumes and stunts. But being unique and different goes much deeper than that.

By the phrase “shine in your own way”, Gaga emphasised that your talents are all your own and not anybody else’s. Don’t be afraid to harness all your power to bring those talents to the world.

People will start to come to you for advice and guidance as your uniqueness motivates them to improve.

#3 – “At the end of the day, you won’t be happy until you love yourself.

It doesn’t matter what other people are saying. You shouldn’t let that negativity spill onto you.

As mentioned before, celebrate the things that make you outstanding. They are to shape your personality and set you apart as someone with a lot to give to the world.

Is that anything to be unhappy about?

Of course not. Cherishing who you are and what you do, in spite of your challenges, is a highly potent source of happiness.

When you’re happy about yourself, you pave the way to achieving amazing things.

#4 – “Every time they told me no, I just got stronger.”

Paradoxically, rejection holds great power and Lady Gaga is living proof.

Now, the real challenge lies in taking hold of that power and wielding it.

And to do that, you must first believe in your abilities and talents, which will empower you to persist with your endeavours no matter what.

However, that is not to say that you should blindly push forward without reflecting on what you’ve done. Use rejections as your motivation to continuously improve.

#5 – “Kindness is a free currency from a well that will never dry up.

What Gaga means by the above is that you can leverage kindness to show the world your true self.

Your display of kindness will not only have a profound effect on others, but it will also put you in the best light.

Tapping into that limitless well can make you happier, more grounded, and far more optimistic in your perception of the world. One of the many benefits is that it’ll be much harder for the negative voices to challenge your convictions as a result.

#6 – “In order to build strength, you have to usually come from a lot of weakness.

Strength is something that you acquire through experience, education, and continuous improvement. As said, you will face challenges and it just so happens that this could highlight your weaknesses.

But that is not a bad thing. Acknowledge those weaknesses and you’ll be able to come up with practical ways to transform them into strengths.

Furthermore, working on your weaknesses will open up new perspectives to your benefit, both personal and professional.

#7 – “You just have to go back to that greatness, find that one little light that’s left.

There will be times when you feel at odds with the rest of the world. Perhaps whatever you’re most passionate about would cease to work.

However, that’s just the ordinary course of things.

Like Gaga, it’s not unusual for other outstanding individuals to question their own greatness.

If you ever feel the same way, you will want to stop with that line of thinking and look deep within you.

Rather than any proof that you’re average, you want to find that beacon that would remind you about how great you are. Once found, you can grab hold of that beacon and use it to rekindle the idea of your greatness.

Believe in Yourself

Lady Gaga wouldn’t be where she is today if she had allowed other people’s belittling of her talent to get to her.

While it’s true that continuous negativity isn’t easy to face down, you simply have to do it or you will deprive yourself of the chance to become the best version of yourself.

Be certain in your ability to make a meaningful mark on the world and motivate others. This is what you can achieve through personal and professional growth and empowerment.

You’ll face challenges along the way, but that’s a normal part of the process. It’s up to you to brush them off and move forward stronger than before.

You don’t have to do it on your own, however. It’s perfectly fine to solicit help from someone who’s been there and done that.
